Equilibria reflects the delicate interplay between natural and cultural heritage. Perched at the edge of a woodblock, a crab balances a stack of pebbles, upon which a small rural house stands. The house represents an aspiration toward living more simply and harmoniously with the environment. It points to a way of life that values modesty and a lighter footprint on the earth. Qualities that feel ever more urgent in our fast paced, consumption driven world. A recurring object within these imagined homes is the traditional lantern, a gentle reminder of continuity with the past, of illumination passed down through generations, and of finding light in simpler ways of living.
More than just a creature of the shoreline, the crab serves as a symbol of resilience and adaptation. Drawing from the phenomenon of carcinisation, where diverse species independently evolve into crab-like forms, it embodies nature's capacity to persist, reconfigure, and thrive under pressure. Through this, the sculpture conveys a sense of optimism that both our built legacies and natural environments might continue to coexist in a fragile yet enduring equilibrium.
