Merchant of Happiness

The notion of a "merchant of happiness" is entirely metaphorical, as happiness cannot be quantified as a physical commodity that can be purchased or traded. Rather, the happiness we speak of arises from a delight that stems from the appreciation of the simple yet profound moments of joy and contentment that can be found in artistic expressions.

The Merchant of Happiness official store is a collaborative effort between William Sim and Lush Tan, two visual artists based in Singapore. The focus of the project is to capture the essence of nostalgia and ruralism through an unconventional and whimsical lens, while holding the belief that nature is intertwined in everything we create.

The Artists

William Sim

William Sim has exhibited his works in numerous group and solo exhibitions, primarily in Singapore as well as South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. He is the acclaimed author of Singapore's best-selling colouring book, "Colouring the Lion City," and has also published several other titles, such as "Colouring the World," "Colouring Chinoiserie," "Botanical Singapore," "Out & About in Singapore," "Out & About in Singapore 2," and "My Zodiac Colouring Book." William also co-authored, Of Happiness and Biophilia with Lush Tan, an art book that showcases a comprehensive collection of artwork created in a span of ten years.

Lush Tan

Lush Tan is a versatile designer and sculptor who has contributed his expertise to a broad range of clients, including corporate entities, government agencies, statutory boards, and art galleries. With a repertoire spanning from commercial design to fine arts, his work has been recognised in several awards, including the Singapore Young Professional Designer's Award, Springleaf Creative Award, and the Conqueror Designer Award.
