Pairing of painting with sculpture
What is a Milo Dinosaur, where does it come from, and what about its habitat? While its exact origin remains unknown, Milo Dinosaurs are commonly found in casual eateries throughout Singapore and Malaysia. Not to be confused with an actual dinosaur, a "Milo Dinosaur" is a super-sized mocktail made by blending chocolate-malt Milo powder with sugar, water, milk, and ice, and then topping it with an extra heap of Milo powder for maximum joy.
The connection to soccer is embedded in the drink's codeword: "Tak Kiu" / 踢球, which translates to "kicking a ball." This is mainly because of the brand's long-standing association with athleticism. The artwork celebrates a shared cultural experience, evoking joy and nostalgia. The jersey number the boy is wearing is associated with Singapore's football icon Fandi Ahmad.

A Collector of Happy Things
The gravity-defying sculptures are essentially "assemblages" of familiar or nostalgic items that are commonplace in Singapore. Each piece serves as a tribute to the small, precious moments of growing up and living in Singapore. Just as every memory is tied to a specific moment in time, each sculpture is paired with a painting that narrates its imagery within the drawing, akin to a causality dilemma. The interplay between sculpture and painting evokes a sense of duality, where both exist in parallel, almost fantastical realities, much like a world seen through a looking-glass.
It has been said that a good life is a collection of happy memories. Throughout our lives, we often accumulate baggage that stays with us for a long time. We can choose to be a beast of burden or be a collector of happy things.
